Harvey G. “Lightning” McQueen, age 89, of Megargel, Texas, died May 28, 2018 in Olney, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 2, 2018, at the Hamilton Street Church of Christ in Olney, Texas with Scotte Clark, minister, officiating. Interment will follow in Megargel Cemetery in Megargel, Texas. Visitation will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 1, 2018 at Lunn Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney, Texas.

Harvey was born on January 15, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Ronald Harvey McQueen and Florence (Murrey) McQueen. He married Gladys Hazel Magee on January 12, 1951 in Dearborn, Michigan. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Harvey attended Abilene Christian College in Abilene, Texas, where he received his B.A. In his early ministry years, he served as Deacon at Northside Church of Christ in Abilene, Texas, Minister of Lingleville Church of Christ in Lingleville, Texas, Minister of Mertzon Church of Christ in Mertzon, Texas and Elder and Minister of Iraan Church of Christ in Iraan, Texas. Harvey and Hazel moved to Megargel, Texas in 1964, served as Elder and Minister of the Megargel Church of Christ, and was actively involved in ministry work there for many years. Harvey retired as Postmaster of the Megargel Post Office and was also a Germania Representative and a builder. He loved serving others, and was proud to serve on many boards and organizations. He was a member of the CAC Board from 1964-1967; Megargel Chamber of Commerce from 1964-1966 (Manager); Megargel ISD School Board from 1975-2002, (VP and President); Megargel Volunteer Fire Department from 1964-1974, (Fire Chief and Secretary/Treasurer); Boy Scouts of America from 1961-1970, (Scoutmaster); Archer County Little League from 1966-1971, (President); and was the Past President of the Megargel Cemetery Association from 1982-1990 and 2001-2009. Harvey helped supervise and build the park and baseball field in Megargel in the late 1960’s. He also received a plaque in recognition of outstanding community service in Megargel in 1969 and was listed in the Archer County Old Timers. Not only was Harvey a “fisher of men”, he truly loved to fish. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Eloise Scott; and a brother, Ralph McQueen.

Harvey is survived by his wife, Hazel McQueen of Megargel, Texas; a sister, Martha Wheeler and husband Jerry of Bedford, Texas; six children: Bonnie Willingham and husband Steve of Abilene, Texas; Ronald McQueen and wife Julie of Abilene, Texas; Paul McQueen and wife Anne of Megargel, Texas; Lisa Reed and husband Cary of Justin, Texas; Sandra Spruell and husband Carl of Goldthwaite, Texas; and Sharon Gilley and husband Shane of Abilene, Texas; thirteen grandchildren: Robin Hsueh and husband Peter; Holly Harrison and husband Jeremy; Ronica Case and husband David; Harv McQueen and wife Gloria; Grant Spruell and wife Laura; Rebecca Fonseca and husband Andre; Lindsey Spruell; Autumn Reed; Michelle Reed; Kari McQueen; Kristi McQueen; Katelyn Gilley; and Colby Gilley; ten great-grandchildren: Jadyn, Carabelle, Kyrlie, and Amelia Case; Luke and Alyssa Harrison; Meilee, Jacob and Kailee Hsueh; and Nolan Spruell, with another one on the way.
