Clay was born in Olney, Texas to Keith and Susan McCarson on February 21, 1985. He graduated with honors from Olney ISD in 2003. While in school, Clay played basketball and was involved in auto-mechanics and building trades. He was voted best looking and class favorite several times in High School.
Clay had a big heart and loved his family dearly. He loved ranching and had a special feel of the land. His happiest time was working with his dad, Keith, and brother Abel. He enjoyed camping with his kids and teaching David to box, especially with his strong right hook. He loved his heart to heart talks with Maci, and always encouraged her creativity. He was especially fond of his boxer, Rig, and Maciís cat, Chubs. Clay had a fun, wicked, keen sense of humor. He loved to play tricks on people and argued just for the sake of arguing! Clay always took up and cared for the underdog. You could count on him to be in your corner. Clay married the girl of his dreams, Krissa Goodwin, on July 10, 2004, in Elbert, Texas.
Clay was preceded in death by his father, Keith McCarson of Megargel, Texas on September 27, 2012; his maternal grandfather David N. Hays of Olney, Texas on September 5, 2000; and paternal grandfather, G.B. McCarson of Elbert, Texas on
